Our Testimonials

Hear what our apprentices have to say about our apprenticeships.

Develop individuals. Develop companies.

I previously completed my Level 3 Payroll Administrator apprenticeship through MBKB and I received amazing support from a great tutor so it was a no-brainer to complete my Level 5 with them.

Michelle Roden from PDSA

“I’m Michelle Roden, Payroll Team Leader at PDSA (People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals). I previously completed my Level 3 Payroll Administrator apprenticeship through MBKB and I received amazing support from a great tutor so it was a no-brainer to complete my Level 5 with them.

Top 3 benefits from completing the apprenticeship;

  • I started my career with PDSA as a Payroll Administrator so the courses have helped me become Payroll Team Leader
  • I’ve gained a huge amount of confidence with the more technical side of payroll and duties I wouldn’t usually deal with in my role, e.g – IR35, CIS payroll
  • The knowledge, skills & behaviours that I’ve been taught from the courses will help me throughout my whole career

I’m very happy and settled here but I would love to complete a Level 7 Payroll apprenticeship course if that becomes available. I’m also quite interested in completing some pension course to further my knowledge in this area.

MBKB have been great in every way whilst completing my course. My tutor, Emma was always on hand to help with any queries and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. If I was ever finding anything tricky, she’d find extra support for me and ensured I was happy and understood the task at hand. I would highly recommend MBKB and wouldn’t hesitate to complete a course with them again in the future (hopefully the level 7 payroll course).”

My tutors where always available to be able to assist with any questions and the tutor sessions where very informative and the materials available quickly to enable me to finish my tasks within the required timeframe.

Jessica Ferris from Arrk Europe Ltd

“Introduce yourself. My name is Jess Ferris and I have been working in payroll for nearly 20 years, I have worked in both large multinational companies and small businesses, and during this time have worked as part of a team or as a sole payroller. Within my current role as well as dealing with the payroll as a sole-payroller I also manage the benefits programme and assist with the HR Team, I am also involved in Fleet and Internal Audits. As with most people I fell into payroll after being moved to a data entry role to finish a Business Administration Apprenticeship, from this I secured a Payroll Admin role and have been building on my career since then, I may not have initially chosen payroll, but it seems to have chosen me and I have chosen to stay within the profession.

Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship? After COVID I wanted to do something which would enhance my skills and give me a recognised qualification. I had done the CIPP Advanced Practitioner Certificate many years before but struggled with the way in which they delivered the course but knew an apprenticeship would suite my learning style better. I also wanted my employer to invest something in me as a long-term recognition of all my work during the 2 years of Covid, Furlough and Claims.

What are the top three benefits you have experienced, thanks to an apprenticeship? 1) Learning and enhanced knowledge in all areas of payroll, especially those which I had no or little experience in before. 2) Increased confidence in my abilities and in the ability to speak to all levels of colleagues, from young apprentices to directors. 3) Feeling of confidence from my colleagues.

What are your ambitions for your career? I would like to be able to become a team-leader of small team, or to take on a larger payroll as a sole-payroller. At this time, I enjoy the processing and calculation of the payroll so do not wish to become a manager and must step away from this, as a sole payroller I feel that I get some of the management experience but am also able to keep the core payroll responsibilities which I enjoy.

How have MBKB supported you in your learning? My tutors where always available to be able to assist with any questions and the tutor sessions where very informative and the materials available quickly to enable me to finish my tasks within the required timeframe. The MBKB Webinars of Payroll Updates and Budget Updates where very relevant to be able to assist me within my everyday role.

Why would you recommend MBKB? MBKB are very professional and friendly in their approach to delivering the Level 5 Payroll Apprenticeship and tailor the apprenticeship to you based on your current knowledge and skill level as well as ensuring that all learning outcomes are achieved to a high level.”

My Tutor Ashley was absolutely fantastic and helped me through all of my concerns and was super patient with me.

Sue Little from Travis Perkins

“When I started my apprenticeship with MBKB I was very nervous about going back into the world of studying. My Tutor Ashley was absolutely fantastic and helped me through all of my concerns and was super patient with me. I also needed to complete FS Math as I could not find my GCSE certificate at the start of the course, this concerned me as it had been a while, and it was needed to complete the course…..However, Michelle, again, was fantastic and helped me through my studying and I achieved what I set out to do. I could not recommend these guys enough to guide you through what can be a very nerve wracking time. I have now achieved my Level 4 Internal Audit Practitioner and I will definitely be studying further in the future. “
