Our Testimonials

Hear what our apprentices have to say about our apprenticeships.

Develop individuals. Develop companies.

MBKB were the training provider for my apprenticeship and my tutor Emma was a star. She understood the deadlines for payroll and that I would be busier at points in the month and was supportive throughout. Emma was extremely flexible and allowed me to choose the modules, for example in one month I was completing some GDPR training so we brought forward the GDPR module so it would be fresh in my mind.

Kirsty Pickering from IPL

“I had chosen to complete the Level 5 Payroll assistant manager apprenticeship, which I have successfully passed. I decided to enrol in this course as it was a newly published apprenticeship at the time, which would allow me to progress my career and would solidify my knowledge. Payroll has historically not been recognised as a career; however, with employers focusing on employee experience and improvements in technology, the industry has grown and now become recognised.

This course was a two-year commitment and whilst it was hard work to complete this alongside working, it has been very rewarding. I have gained knowledge that has allowed me to implement changes in the payroll processing to ensure we are compliant and improve our day-to-day practice. I am grateful I found an employer who recognised my commitment to payroll and would support me through completion of this apprenticeship.

Whilst mid-way through the programme I was successfully promoted to Leader of the payroll team. My goal would be to make it to Payroll manager and possibly explore other training in Reward/HR in the future.

I was not at MBKB long but when I transitioned I definitely learnt what a good tutor was. Claire was amazing and I would recommend her to anyone, she is patient and makes sure you understand something. She wouldn't let you fail either she was always so positive and you never felt you could not go to her.

“My role at LendInvest is People Operations Assistant and I am currently studying for my Level 3 CIPD in People Practice.

Before I started my apprenticeship I was working full time at a recruitment agency in London. When I discovered the People Assistant role at LendInvest, I felt the opportunity sounded very interesting and it was a perfect alternative to not going to university. I felt it would give me the chance to develop my people, communication and organisational skills whilst learning on the job.

Excited and nervous as I’d never done an apprenticeship before, however my team is amazing and very supportive. I also have a course tutor and Learning & Development Coach who support me with my studies. LendInvest also have a Learning and Development Manager who works closely with all apprentices to ensure they have the correct support in place.

The freedom of having time to study and everyone being so supportive. No matter who anyone is, if you have a question about their department and team they will be happy to help and no question feels like a silly question. Also my manager really cares about how I’m getting on with my studies and she makes sure I have enough time and my work balance is ok – everyone is very supportive.

Balancing my studies with my work has been easy for me as I have a study day on a Friday and put my out of office on. This gives me a full day to focus and means I can pick up any queries on the following Monday. Luckily because we have a hybrid working set up, I can work from home on my study day and I don’t have distractions around me which means I can really focus on my work.

I would definitely advise doing an apprenticeship and can say it’s one of the best decisions I have made. It gives you so much freedom, you’re earning money whilst getting a qualification and learning so many skills about real work life.”

I started the apprenticeship as an administrator, and have ended the apprenticeship as a Head of Payroll in another organisation. I think this was only possible through the knowledge and experience gained from my course.

Liam McCarthy From the Office for National Statistics

“I chose to pursue a payroll apprenticeship to aim to open opportunities for myself in the future, by combining my existing knowledge with a level 5 qualification.

My experience with MBKB was a thoroughly enjoyable one. My tutors Laura and Emma, were both extremely helpful in guiding me through what was a challenging journey, due to certain work commitments. Despite these challenges, I was able to successfully navigate through the course and pass.

Not only have I gained a qualification but my career has excelled too, I couldn’t have achieved this without the confidence this course has given me. The knowledge given by my tutor was invaluable and for that reason I would certainly recommend MBKB to others.

Danielle Fogg from Parasol

“My name is Danielle and I’ve worked in the Payroll industry for 9 years. I chose to complete an apprenticeship through MBKB as I felt there was gaps in my knowledge that this course looked to fill. Completing this apprenticeship meant that I could learn during working hours and use the skills and knowledge within my day to day role. During the course of this apprenticeship I have received a promotion and I am now the Payroll & Pensions Manager within our firm. Not only have I gained a qualification but my career has excelled too, I couldn’t have achieved this without the confidence this course has given me. The knowledge given by my tutor was invaluable and for that reason I would certainly recommend MBKB to others.”
