“Takiwātanga,”
Neurodivergent Support
We are the leading force in SEND support in our sector, we pride ourselves on driving support and inclusion in the apprenticeship world.

“Takiwātanga,” is a Māori term, means “in his/her/their own time and space” and is used to describe autism, emphasizing the unique rhythms and needs of autistic individuals. The term highlights the importance of respecting individual differences and creating inclusive environments. We like this word and all its means, as such at MBKB we pride ourselves on our ‘Takiwātanga’ approach

Overview:
All tutors take responsibility for learners with SEND but we also have a specialist team of two SEND Coordinators that oversee the support and implementation of adjustments for learners with those additional support requirements
As part of their role, they liaise with the tutors and the exam boards to ensure that our learners with additional support needs, have the support and adjustments in place for them at their end point assessment and throughout their course, writing a unique and individualised support plan for every learner and regularly reviewing that support plan throughout the entire course.
We offer a Unique learning journey for all our learners at MBKB and for those with a neurodivergence we cater to their strengths and support any areas of need, during the initial enrolment phase. We ask learners to share any formal diagnosis or medical conditions with us so we can cater to their needs and adjustments on course. However, if learners do not have formal diagnosis, we are able to use Cognassist, which is a neurodivergent diagnostic platform to help identify any potential adjustments a learner may need, and how we can implement those into their learning journey.
All learners with or without a formal diagnosis of a learning difficulty and/or disability will receive access too:
- A thorough needs assessment to identify support requirements
- A support plan
- Access to Cognassist, their Cognative report & map and monthly modules to help give them a boost
- Quarterly support reviews
- Support in the application and request for reasonable adjustments for exams and End Point Assessment.
- the option to work 1-2-1 with a qualified coach
We do this because we recognise that everyone Is unique and different in how they learn and our approach needs to be unique to each learner, whether you have a formal diagnosis of a learning difficulty or disability, currently on the pathway for one, or have never received support before, You will be seen, heard and supported throughout your course.
